about me

I graduated from the Newcastle University in 2004 with a degree in Visual Communication Design. In my final year of the degree, I wrote a paper, that influenced my entire career, called “Humane Computer Interface Design - How cognitive psychology can be applied to computer interface design”. The degree focused on the communication skills of a graphic designer, however, this paper highlighted and explored an element of design that I had not yet utilised; the human experience. It introduced me to a whole new way of thinking and a new approach to all design challenges.

Whilst I began my career as a Junior Web Designer in Newcastle. I have since worked across Sydney and London on a broad variety of projects from web, digital, print, packaging, UI and product design. I have loved defining and executing design structures and systems. I have loved exploring the tactile and interactive nature of print and packaging, always suggesting elements for customer engagement even on the most static of formats. I have loved getting to the root of the customer needs and collaborating to execute powerful UI, IxD and product solutions. Most of all, I have loved the projects that combined left and right brain thinking, being able to combine both creativity and analytical thought to identify insights.

I followed the momentum of my career wherever it took me until late 2019, when I found myself in a role where I adored my clients but not the process. This situation gifted me with the clarity to pause and reflect. I now know all previous roles interested me because of their relation to human experience. Until this point, I had been incredibly fortunate to land roles at companies with human experience ingrained in their process. I'm talking about immersive and emotionally engaging rebrands, as well as customer-centric product development and design solutions.

With this clarity on human experience serving as my focus, my most recent roles have come full circle back to the realm of tech and customer-centric solutions. Since which, I've discovered that the skills I've acquired throughout my broad career have relevance beyond what I initially imagined. My skill set is versatile between design leadership, product ownership, product planning, mentoring and developing design talent, and managing the planning and output of all the different types of skill sets involved in product creation. I am delighted by the discovery and am eager to pursue these avenues further, whilst learning and growing.

Most recently, I‘ve completed a Product Manager Certification at the highly regarded Product School. This was in part to fill some knowledge gaps I felt were necessary, as well as to validate, to myself, that this is definitely a path I’m happy to persue for years to come. Glad to reveal, it is.

Anyway, this is me. I have a diverse background that is all tied together by a love of human-centered design. Reach out if you’re keen to work together or bounce around wild hypotheses.
